UCLA repeated as WWLL Division 1 champions and Cal State San Marcos repeated as WWLL Division 2 champions at the Western Women's Lacrosse League post-season tournament hosted by UC Santa Cruz. The weather was amazing all weekend but the road to first place was tightly contested for both champions. With their wins both the Bruins and the Cougars get the WWLL automatic qualifier spots for their divisions in the USA Lacrosse sponsored WCLA National Championship Tournament May 9th - 12th in Wichita, Kansas.

The Cougars had a BYE in the quarterfinals but had to persevere in a tough semifinal to win 9-7 over Cal Poly B to advance to the D2 final with Concordia.  The Mustangs had advanced from a 8-4 quarterifinal win over Fullerton College. Concordia advanced with an 8-4 win in their quarterfinal with host UC Santa Cruz and then the Golden Eagles squeaked by UC San Diego in a 7-6 semifinal.  San Marcos then beat Concordia 12-5 to get the repeat D2 trophy and the automatic bid for WCLA Nationals.

Top ranked Cal State San Marcos improved to 12-0 and has a strong case for the #1 seed at WCLA Nationals.

UCSB won 17-9 in their quarterfinal with Cal Poly SLO to advance to the semifinal with UCLA, who had a BYE in the quarterfinals. The Bruins took down the Gauchos 14-9 in the semifinals to get the matchup with the upstart club from San Diego State. In the 2023 WWLL Championships held at UC San Diego the Aztecs had upset the Bruins 16-15 in overtime but history did not repeat in 2025.

To get to the final San Diego State whopped Grand Canyon 23-5 in their quarterfinal to advance to a semifinal with 2nd seeded ASU, who had a BYE in the quarterfinal round. In the regular season game between the two on February 1st in Tempe, the club from ASU beat SDSU 8-6 so everyone knew this semifinal was going to be special. The Aztecs prevailed in the revenge game with a 8-7 win to advance to face UCLA for the gold, again.

The Bruins prevailed over San Diego State team in a back and forth game that saw UCLA hold off a surging Aztecs squad at the end to hold on and get a 9-7 win and their repeat D1 Championship. Second ranked UCLA improved to 13-0 with the two post-season wins and should get one of the top two seeds at WCLA Nationals.

Eleven of the twelve teams playing in the two divisions at the WWLL Tournament are nationally ranked or receiving votes, either in the WCLA D1 Poll or the WCLA D2 Poll. Just getting into the WWLL event is a tough task. There was no room for three nationally ranked teams and all three still have a chance at getting selected in at-large spots for WCLA Nationals.

All game scores are here on the WWLL website and also available along with progress through the brackets on Tourney Machine or with this QR code.
