Sparks, MD — University of Georgia has received the No. 1 seed in the Division I bracket of the 2025 USA Lacrosse Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse Associates (WCLA) National Championships, while CSU San Marcos earned the No. 1 seed in the Division II field.
The WCLA National Championships showcase the nation’s premier non-varsity collegiate women’s teams and will be played May 7-10 at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kansas.
Featuring 16 Division I teams and 12 Division II teams, the tournament brackets are comprised of a combination of teams earning automatic qualifiers as league champions and teams earning at-large berths.
Georgia (14-0) is making its 17th overall and 10th straight appearance in the WCLA championship tournament. The Bulldogs won their only WCLA title in 2016 and enter this year’s tournament as the automatic qualifier and champion from the Southeastern Women's Lacrosse League (SWLL). Georgia defeated Clemson in the SWLL’s championship game last weekend to earn the league’s automatic bid.
Defending national champion UCLA (13-0) received the number two seed after holding the top spot in the weekly ranking for much of the 2025 season. The Bruins are making their 16th appearance in the national tournament and return to Wichita as this year’s champion of the Western Women’s Lacrosse League. UCLA made its run to the 2024 WCLA title as the third seed last year, defeating Northeastern, 13-8, in the championship game.
Clemson Club (11-2), this year’s runner-up in the SWLL, is seeded third, and Northeastern (9-3), champion of the Northeast Women’s Lacrosse League, is the number four seed.
In Division II, CSU San Marcos (10-0) earned the top seed for the second straight year after repeating as champion of the Western Women’s Lacrosse League (WWLL). The Cougars are making their fifth overall appearance in the WCLA championship tournament and are the only undefeated D-II team in the nation.
Boise State (8-1), champion of the Rocky Mountain Women's Lacrosse League, is the number two seed and back in the championship for the fourth time. Two more WWLL teams round out the top four, with Concordia (10-3) receiving the number three seed and UC San Diego (7-2) seeded fourth.
Nearly 150 Division I and Division II teams comprise the WCLA and compete under the USA Lacrosse umbrella. The annual WCLA National Championship began in 2001 with a Division I tournament. The Division II championship was added in 2010.
Selections for the championship tournament are based on a variety of criteria, including, overall record, record versus ranked teams, results versus common opponents, quality wins/quality losses, head-to-head results, conference playoff performance, and final conference standings.
Details about video streaming of games from Wichita will be announced shortly.
